Hyperhidrosis

(Excessive Sweating)

Sweating is a normal physiological response when we become hot during our daily activities or exercise – sweating helps to cool down our bodies. Sometimes these sweat glands start to over function without any obvious reasoncausing excessive sweating.

This condition is known as hyperhidrosis. Sweating can occur at unwarranted times and can significantly deteriorate the quality of life. This can be a great source of social anxiety and embarrassment.

Here at Skinworks Jersey, we offer hyperhidrosis treatment to the axilla’s (underarm), which is the most common area to be treated, as it is this area which causes the most discomfort and anxiety. Botox in the arm pits is given as multiple small injections to prevent the sweat glands from excessive sweating which leads to a reduction in psychological effects caused by the condition and odour.

Symptoms of Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis typically presents as:

  • Excessive armpit sweating
  • Visible wet clothes
  • Clammy palms
  • Global body sweating

Causes:

1. Primary hyperhidrosis:

Most of the people have a genetic inclination for hyperhidrosis and include 30-50% of the affected population*. In the majority of these patients, the cause is unknown.

2. Secondary hyperhidrosis:

The condition may also arise due to an underlying health condition. The most common diseases causing excessive sweating include hyperthyroidism, obesity, adrenal gland disorders, and Parkinson’s disease. These patients are generally treated within the health system and treatment normally involves treating the underlying health condition as well as using Botox to treat excessive sweating.
